WASPS director of rugby Dai Young said his players failed to match the standards they'd set themselves last week as they lost 26-23 to Harlequins today.

Two tries just after half time turned the game, but Wasps would have won at a canter if they'd come close to the level they reached in beating Northampton.

Young said: "We had a crazy ten minutes just after half time which was hugely disappointing.

"The most we should have lost there was six points from two penalties, but a couple of individual errors meant it was a 14-point swing, which was a mountain too big for us to climb.

"But saying that, I don't feel we ever hit the levels we hit last week. We were about 60 per cent where we were. I thought we looked tired, we were messy and nowhere near as efficient as last week.

"We talked all week about maintaining the standard and backing up last week's performance with a similar performance, but although I felt Quins did enough to win I don't think we really pushed them like we wanted to."

This narrow loss follows their last-minute defeat to Saracens and it wouldn't have taken much more for them to have began with three victories against three of last season's top four.

Young said: "To be honest, before the season if you said we'd have a win nicked away from us against Sarries, we'd beat Northampton and be hugely disappointed not to get another win against Quins I'd have probably taken that.

"But we didn't play in the first half against Sarries, we were very good for 80 minutes against Northampton and this week we didn't maintain the standard.

"That's what I've left ringing in the boys' ears - the days have gone where we tap ourselves on the back for narrow loses. We should be winning these games.

"We have to man up."
