MARLOW’S Tom Howe says he wants to stay and fight for his shirt at Wasps.

The winger played against Sale in the LV=Cup last weekend but hasn’t had many other chances this season and with his contract up in the summer, he is eager to make his mark.

He said: “I’m here for this year and then hopefully I’ll get resigned. If not I’ll have to reassess my options.

“But I’ve been at Wasps since I was a youngster. That’s where my heart is and I’m quite a loyal person so I want to stay and fight for my place.”

But while Howe has gone backwards in the pecking order for his club, he has enjoyed success on the international stage after spending part of the autumn on the Sevens Circuit with England.

He said: “At the end of August I got called up by the England Sevens team to go to Bucharest. What an opportunity that was.

“We trained the week before and flew off that weekend. I couldn’t believe it. It was amazing.

“The sevens circuit is definitely something I want to do. As a winger the spaces you get don’t relate to XVs so it’s good to get that experience and it’s good to be in a different environment.

“You are on the ball a lot and get that sense of beating defenders one on one, which translates into XVs. Skills wise, your catch/pass improves and space awareness.

“I think it’s helping a lot.”

Another sevens carrot is the Olympics in 2016.

Tom Varndell has already said he wants to go to Brazil and Howe admits he’d love to join him.

He said: “The sevens is now in the Olympics so I’m sure a few speedsters will have an eye on that. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity so if I was allowed to go contractually I’d love to.”
