Dai Young was a happy man after watching Wasps end their 12-year tenure at Adams Park with a seven try blitz against Castres Olympique in the European Champions Cup.

The black and golds put in a vintage display to follow up last weekend’s bonus point win in France with a dominant display that the 6,507 fans present were all longing to see.

Fittingly, Wasps scored with the last possession of the final rugby game that the club will play in Buckinghamshire leaving Young with reason to be pleased with the fond farewell.

He said: “I’m really pleased, as well, that it was a great way to say thank you to Adams Park, which has been our home for 12 years.

“It’s goodbye to Adams Park but hopefully it’s not goodbye to all the supporters because we do hope to get as many of the supporters down to the Ricoh with us.”

A new chapter in Wasps’ history now beckons with the Ricoh Arena becoming home to a club that won four English league titles, two Heineken Cups and one Anglo Welsh Cup during their stay in High Wycombe.

Progress from Pool Two now seems a realistic prospect for the black and golds after consecutive victories against Castres, and Young is looking for his side to bring big matches to their new home in Coventry via qualification for the latter rounds of European competition.

“People want to go and watch big games, meaningful games so it’s really important to us stepping into our new chapter that the games there are meaningful games. For us it doesn’t change a lot in this group.

“We realise we’ve probably still got to win two games for us to achieve anything in this group. They will be big occasions and big games, ones that hopefully can keep attracting new supporters and keeping some of our other ones.”

The try fest against Castres is sure to live long in the memory of those who turned up to see the club’s final game in Bucks, and Young hopes that most of those in attendance on Sunday afternoon will be making a regular trip up the M40 to see them strut their stuff in Coventry.

“We’ve had a real positive response from the supporters, we’ve showed them around up there and everyone seems quite positive.

“We’re really hopeful that we can take as many as possible down there and obviously attract some new supporters as well.”
