THE boy who led RGS High Wycombe to the U15 Daily Mail Cup in 2011 has taken another stride towards a career in professional rugby after joining the Dallaglio Foundation.

Ben Wood was the RGS fly half when they lifted the Daily Mail Cup at Twickenham for an unprecedented fourth time.

He said: “I am excited about being mentored by Lawrence, a British Lion and Wasps hero.

“The Foundation has given me a fantastic opportunity to board at my school, where I am extremely happy and can now focus even more on my rugby training and my academic studies.

“This is a dream come true for me and I look forward to working with the Foundation family as an Ambassador for all the rugby and charity projects.”

Wood started playing rugby at Beaconsfield Rugby Club and Davenies School before joining RGS.

He has captained the Wasps Academy at U15s and is part of their Elite Player Development Group.

Foundation manager Paula Robertson said: “Obviously great rugby talent is important to us, but we also want someone with a positive attitude who will take the opportunity he’s been given, not just on the rugby side but also with other projects within the foundation.

“Ben is very level-headed and very excited to get involved.

“He sees the big picture and we’re delighted to have him.”

The Dallaglio Foundation was set up to raise funds and support cancer charities and youth development.
