WYCOMBE Wanderers chief executive Mark Ashton has resigned just four months after joining the club.
He has gone with immediate effect, saying he wants a career outside of the game.
Ashton, a former goalkeeper at West Bromwich Albion, was a controversial appointment when he joined the club in February following a turbulent time of highs and lows as the chief executive at Watford.
He pleaded with Blues fans to judge him on what he did at Adams Park, rather than on his time with the Hornets, but he never gave them time to make up their own minds.
In a statement issued to the Bucks Free Press and the club's official website, Ashton said he had taken the decision after lengthy discussions with his family who are still based in Worcester.
He said: "I've been in football for the majority of my life and now feel it is time to do something different.
"I've had a number of highs and lows in football and regard my short time at Wycombe some of the most enjoyable.
"I have a new baby daughter and intend to spend the summer at home with my family before deciding on my next career move."
Speaking to the Bucks Free Press this afternoon, managing director Steve Hayes said: "I'm disappointed that Mark has gone but I understand and fully respect his decision."
Hayes added that the club are not looking to immediately replace him.
