TWO life saving machines can now be accessed by the public in Stokenchurch.

Stokenchurch Parish Council worked with the South Central Ambulance Service to install two defibrillators- one at the Longburrow Hall and one at the Kings Hotel.

The medical centre has one but not on public display.

Chairman Malcolm Penny said: "I think it is an excellent idea. In due course we would like to extend it and put another one in the village.

"When we install them we are guided by footfall."

The bright yellow boxes contain defibrillators, which deliver an electric shock to the heart when someone is having a cardiac arrest.

Upon calling 999 and explaining the situation, the call handler will direct the caller to the nearest box, and give the access code and will remain on the phone to give support and full instructions.

The South Central Ambulance service offered a reduced rate of £1,680 for the defibrillators and £500 each for the boxes.

They are presently planning to organise a public training session for defibrillators and CPR, which will be organised as soon as possible.
