THE pros and cons of the Foxhunting Bill pall into insignificance when one realises that the Government, by invoking the Parliament Act, can push through any issue, however petty, thus giving itself supreme powers rendering the House of Lords totally redundant.

A one-house state would quickly lead to a one-party state and the end of democracy.

This sort of high-handed Government must be stopped with the utmost urgency before a principle is set.
