Images of the new multi-million pound Wycombe Leisure Centre, which is due to open in January, have been released.

Half way through the construction of the Handy Cross facilities, Wycombe District Council has released the latest designs of what visitors can expect to see next year.

Once completed, the new leisure centre will include an eight lane 50 metre pool with moveable floor and sub-aqua dive pit, a 20 metre by eight metre learner pool with moving floor at 1.2 metres deep.

There will also be a climbing wall, a 150 station gym, a dance studio a 12 court sports hall, four rink bowls hall, two squash courts, a steam room and sauna, two party or meeting rooms and a café.

Councillor Tony Green, the district council's cabinet member for economic development and regeneration, said: “With the new leisure centre opening in less than a year, these latest images have given us a real idea of what we’ll see when we walk through the front door for the first time.

“We’ve known for a while that the exterior of the new leisure centre is going to be quite striking. These latest images show that high quality, durable finishes will create an equally stylish interior.”

The complex was designed by architects AFLS+P. The new leisure centre interiors were developed using a neutral pallet with accent colours in blues, indigo and violet to highlight key areas and designated zones, such as pool-side spectator seating and changing room lockers.

Floor materials will help guide visitors through the large double height circulation spaces, while timber handrails and timber veneer door finishes will be used to add warmth and soft tones.

Jason Griffiths, ALFS+P interiors manager, said: “We wanted to create a contemporary, high impact interior that will not only stand the test of time, but that plays on colour and texture to promote both accessibility and functionality.”

The £150 million Handy Cross Hub development will also see the addition of a full size Waitrose, and a new purpose-built coachway park and ride.

Furthermore, there will be a 150 bed, 3 star hotel and a day nursery. The office development will be large floor plate buildings totalling 33,105sm, in two phases. The aim is for the first phase of 11,000sm to be available in late 2016/early 2017.
