A radio station dedicated to High Wycombe will return to the airwaves next month.

Wycombe Sound will begin a month-long stint from its studios in Bridge Street from November 19, coinciding with the town’s Christmas lights switch-on, and can be found by tuning into 87.9 FM.

Its previous outing on the airwaves came last year when the team broadcast from the Eden Centre.

Programme director and presenter Philippa Sawyer said: “Our month long broadcast last year was hugely successful so we are very excited about bringing Wycombe Sound to the airwaves once again.

“We believe that Wycombe is crying out for a radio station which has a High Wycombe focus.

"In addition, we will be providing bands with the opportunity to perform live on air and reach a wider audience through the Blue Room, a dedicated area within our studio which will host local musicians."

Wycombe Sound’s first guest will be High Wycombe’s Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Hanif who will be appearing on the Breakfast Show with Des Withey from 7am.

And the team is hoping it can do enough to be granted a permament FM licence to continue indefinitely once the trial run is up on December 16.

Ms Sawyer added: “From our first month on air where we were based at the Eden Centre, we are delighted to have a permanent home on Bridge Street and we hope that we will be given the go-ahead to be a permanent fixture on the airwaves in 2016.”
