Wycombe District Council is pleading with residents to take extra care when parking on rubbish collection days as bin lorries continue to compete for space with parked cars in Marlow.

Frustrated lorry drivers had to abandon their collections on Taylors Close, Mere Close, Thames Close in Bourne End and Dedmere Rise after parked cars blocked their way on Tuesday, December 29.

The council said it is keen to alleviate this problem as soon as possible to avoid any further loss of time and money.

A spokesperson for WDC said: “Some of the roads in our area are narrow and we’re coming up against problems where our collection crews can’t get their vehicles through to collect people’s waste and recycling.

“We do understand that in some areas it’s difficult for people to park but if residents pay extra special attention to where they park on their scheduled collection days, it can really help our crews to get round and to do their collections when people are expecting the service.”

According to Wycombe District Council this is a regular problem; with Dedmere Road, Dedmere Court, Mere Close, Beaumont Rise, Victoria Road, Spring Gardens, Wethered Road and Trinity Avenue also being particularly problematic spots.

And back in May bin lorries had to mount grass verges to navigate through the busy streets, chewing up grass verges much to the dismay of residents.

WDC continued: “If we can’t get through on a road because of parked cars, our crews finish the rest of the round and then do their best to get back to collect as soon as they can, but this isn’t always easy.

“It means residents are having to leave their refuse out and adds uncertainty about when it will be taken. For us, it obviously adds to the time and cost involved in delivering the service to local people.”
