High Wycombe’s Park and Ride service will relocate to the Handy Cross Hub from next month when the current Cressex Island site will be closed.

The new Park and Ride service, which will start on February 1 and be operated by Carousel Buses, will travel directly from the new Coachway to the town centre, calling at the Railway Station, the Bus Station at the Eden Shopping Centre and Wycombe Hospital.

However, current customers wishing to travel between Cressex and the town centre will have to use a replacement service, route 34, which will be operated by Arriva Buses.

Carousel Buses managing director Phil Southall said: “We’re really excited that Carousel has been chosen to operate such a prestigious new Park and Ride service for our town.

“We’ll be using some of Wycombe’s greenest buses on the service and think these will really complement the fantastic new Handy Cross Hub site.”

As part of the new PR1 service, customers will benefit from free parking for up to 12 hours at the Coachway, and a new fleet of buses featuring free wi-fi will run every 15 to 20 minutes.

Chiltern Railways customers holding monthly or longer season tickets can also travel for free to and from the railway station on both the PR1 and 34 routes.

Buckinghamshire County Council’s cabinet member for transportation, Mark Shaw, said: “With frequent buses and free parking Park and Ride is simply perfect whether you’re commuting, shopping or travelling for leisure.”

Wycombe District Council’s cabinet member for economic development and regeneration, Cllr Roger Wilson, said: “It’s fantastic that we are able to continue to provide the Park and Ride service from its wonderful new home at the Handy Cross Hub.”
