Public toilets in a popular Marlow park could face closure during the week in a bid to save council cash.

Currently the toilets in Gossmore Park are open throughout the week, but on Tuesday Marlow Town Council unanimously approved the motion to explore reducing them to a weekend only service.

Although the council is unable to say exactly how much money will be saved, it hopes a significant amount of cash will be provided to go towards the upkeep of open spaces.

This comes after the responsibility of green spaces in the town, bar Higginson Park, was devolved to the town council commencing from April 1 – which includes upkeep of the toilets.

The next step is to consult residents and park users on the plans for the recreation ground – which is owned by the town council with Wycombe District Council owning the toilets.

Speaking at the meeting of Marlow Town Council on Tuesday, March 15, Cllr Neil Marshall said: “It seems wasteful to have them open when they are no scheduled events. It is a very practical and sensible idea.”

The park is home to two football pitches and is a popular spot for dog walkers throughout the town.
