Millions of disposable cups were purchased by Bucks hospitals in just one year, new figures reveal.

Buckinghamshire Healthcare Trust bought 2,009,160 disposable cups in 2017 alone, which is almost twice the amount bought by hospitals in neighbouring county, Berkshire, in five years.

According to a Freedom of Information request, Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust purchased 600,500 disposable cups between 2013 and 2018, while the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust bought 561,157 from 2013 to 2018.

Out of the trusts in the Thames Valley, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust purchased the most cups – buying 11,783,450 from 2014 to 2018.

And across England, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust in London appears to have purchased the most cups – buying 11,783,450 from 2014 to 2018.

However not all trusts in the country responded to the Press Association’s request, while some said they did not hold the information.
