THE meeting opened with Christine Hobbs asking us to adjourn outside to the flagpole where Mr Ian Harvey from the parish council officially presented us with our new WI flag which Margot Morton hoisted. He took the chance to present Holmer Green 800 Centenary plates to Merrin Molesworth, ex Mayor of Chesham and Mr & Mrs Pocock for their support of the parish council.

Christine welcomed 55 members and Margaret Beale's sister-in-law on holiday from New Zealand. There were six apologies.

Christine presented Eileen Hodgeson with a cross-stitch picture to mark her 50 years as a member. She thanked Bill and Marie Gilbey, John and Margaret Hearn and the rest of the committee for the catering at the August barbecue though it was disappointing that yet again this year we had to retreat indoors.

Christine introduced our speaker Mrs Jean Orford whose talk was titled "A Pocketful of Posies". She had a miscellany of amusing poems, sayings and a monologue finishing with a flower arrangement in a card.

Swimming re-started on Wednesday, September 3 at Woodrow. Mini bridge and craft session dates were announced.

All proceeds of the Macmillan Coffee Morning on September 23 held by Margaret Hearn are to go to Macmillan Nurses.

The competition for a perfumed posy was won by Janine Rumble, 2nd Jaqiue Benge and 3rd Janet Kemp.

Nominations for new committee members was asked for as next month will be our annual meeting. How quickly the year has passed since I went back on the committee.
