Fresh from the success of performing Mourning Breakfast on stage at the Amersham & Wycombe College Awards evening, a dance troupe of Amersham & Wycombe College students will be in action again at the British Red Cross’s Dance for Life competition on 6th March 2010.
In addition to choreographing the special contemporary dance piece with Taira Foo and Eloise Degale, tutor Rebecca Smedley-Shulman is hoping the performance will raise awareness and money for the Red Cross’s much needed efforts in Haiti, following the recent earthquake.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the college to be involved in a meaningful charity event, raising money for the British Red Cross, to help support their humanitarian efforts. I'm sure with the current state of things in Haiti, our fundraising efforts will be very much appreciated,” says Rebecca.
The College took part in the Dance for Life competition two years ago, winning the heat, making it to the finals and winning the Choreography category. This year the College is hoping to go one better with Mourning Breakfast, a moving performance that looks at the trials and tribulations of life as a child soldier and the benefits of the British Red Cross’s help.
If you would like to support Rebecca’s Red Cross appeal, please email her at rsmedleyshulman@amersham.ac.uk.
