A local High Wycombe family will be opening the doors to their very special home this September. The home in Totteridge has been dubbed "Superhome59" after becoming the 59th such Superhome in Great Britain in August 2010. To qualify these homes have had to undergo a retrofit to reduce thier carbon footprints by at least 60%. Superhome 59 qualified with an impressive 90% cut. Superhomes open to the public at regular intervals during the year and this opening coincides with Heritage Open days.

You can learn more about Superhomes at http://www.superhomes.org.uk. The project is run by the Sustainable Energy Academy (SEA) who promote education and action to reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and communities. The Old Home SuperHome project is a network of exemplar, old dwellings which have undergone an energy-efficiency retrofit. They aim to create a network of homes that are local and publicly accessible, within 15 minutes, to nearly everyone in the country.

Superhome 59 will be open on Saturday 10th September for guided tours at 1pm and 3pm. Tours must be pre-booked for parties no larger than 5 people. Bookings can be made directly at www.superhome59.info. More information about the local project can be found at www.post-carbon-living.com/homes. Alternatively you can phone the local Transition Town group on 01494 858390 to arrange your visit.
