Pupils from Holtspur Junior School are to perform at a charity concert in the O2 arena in July.

The 55 members of the choir will be joining 4000 other schoolchildren from around the country to sing a selection of Beatles songs and will be accompanied by a live orchestra.

All the children in the choir are extremely excited about the opportunity to sing at the O2.

Kelsie Elliot, 11, said: “We are very honoured to be going. There are lots of schools in the country and we are one that has been picked.”

The choir’s teacher Mark Selwood said: “We just couldn’t turn down an opportunity like this one.”

Choir member Eliza Williams, 11, said: “I’m really excited about it, it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

George Swanson, 11, added: “I love singing and being with my friends. It’s all exciting.”

He added: “We would like to thank Mr Selwood for helping us get this far.”

The choir was started at the school by Mr Selwood in October 2007 and started off with just 15 members. By Christmas of that year 25 pupils were in the choir and now 55 dedicated children practice twice a week at the school.

Mr Selwood said: “I don’t have to chase them to come to practice. They’ve worked so hard for this and it’s a great experience for them.”

Funds raised at the concert will go to the charities Arts By Children and Global Angels to help young people in third world countries.

Bill Bailey, Kevin Eldon, Hollyoaks star Tony Hirst, Sick City Club and 2008 Britain’s Got Talent Finalists Nemesis will join the school children at the arena.

The costumes of sixties style tie-dyed t-shirts were made by year 6 pupils and parents of the choir members.

Two coach loads of proud parents will be attending the charity concert to support their children at the event hosted by Voice for a Better World on Wednesday 1 July.

The choir will also be performing prior to the O2 at MAD, a music, arts and drama showcase. This will take place at Waddesdon Manor on Sunday 28 June at 4.30pm.

Tickets are still available to see the choir in action at the O2 arena. See www.voiceforabetterworld.com for more details.
