A local High Wycombe family will be opening the doors to their very special home this September. The home in Totteridge has been dubbed "Superhome59" after becoming the 59th such Superhome in Great Britain in August 2010. To qualify these homes have had to undergo a retrofit to reduce thier carbon footprints by at least 60%. Superhome 59 qualified with an impressive 90% cut. Superhomes open to the public at regular intervals during the year and this opening coincides with Heritage Open days.

Last month I spoke about how vibrant our district is. There are examples of what I meant by this all over the area but perhaps one of the best examples are seen in Wycombe town centre. Policing town centres effectively at night is a partnership effort. Here in Wycombe we have taken this to another level with ‘Nightsafe’ which is a partnership that includes Thames Valley Police, Wycombe District Council, Bucks Drug and Alcohol Action Team, Pub Watch, Business Watch and Trading Standards. By working together the partnership aims to ensure Wycombe and the surrounding areas are fun, but safe places for a night out for everyone.

A new guide to locally-produced food covering Wycombe and the surrounding area is now available. Called “FOOD” (Food On Our Doorstep), the online version is available now at www.food-on-our-doorstep.org.uk. The hard copy version, a free 36 page booklet, will be available in early October from many of the listed businesses, and outlets such as libraries. The formal launch will take place during the Apple Day at Hughenden Manor on the 10th October, which also coincides with the 10:10:10’s campaign for practical examples of action on climate change.
