Last month I spoke about how vibrant our district is. There are examples of what I meant by this all over the area but perhaps one of the best examples are seen in Wycombe town centre. Policing town centres effectively at night is a partnership effort. Here in Wycombe we have taken this to another level with ‘Nightsafe’ which is a partnership that includes Thames Valley Police, Wycombe District Council, Bucks Drug and Alcohol Action Team, Pub Watch, Business Watch and Trading Standards. By working together the partnership aims to ensure Wycombe and the surrounding areas are fun, but safe places for a night out for everyone.

Nightsafe has now launched its exciting new website where you can find information on some of the best places to go, things to do and even how to get there. There is also straight-talking advice on the subjects of drugs and alcohol and some useful tips on personal safety.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to the new students at Bucks New University. Officers from Thames Valley Police, Wycombe District Council and the Bucks DAAT, along with the Wycombe Watch Coordinator Mrs Jette Peddie were at the Fresher’s Fair last month. Almost 700 packs of crime prevention information were given out to the new students.

On Saturday 23 October there will be members of the Community Safety Partnership in the Chiltern Centre from 9am to 2pm giving out crime prevention advice, including tips on keeping your home safe when the clocks go back, Halloween and Bonfire Night safety tips, information on how to join Neighbourhood Watch or Community Messaging, along with a host of other useful information.

Tackling anti-social behaviour is high on the list of priorities for the Commander and I. In order to encourage people to report incidents of anti-social behaviour, our partners Wycombe District Council have created an online reporting form which can be accessed via the Community Safety pages on its website. The Public Safety Team is a partnership between Thames Valley Police and Wycombe District Council who work together to tackle anti-social behaviour. The aim of the team is to provide a swifter, more coordinated response to anti-social behaviour, and work with other agencies to improve the quality of life for the residents of the district.

Finally, please remember that Wycombe is a very safe place to be and there are many people working very hard to keep it that way.
