MY grandfather was from the Valleys so I was never more proud to have Welsh roots than I was on Friday when I read the story of a Tesco in Cardiff banning shoppers from wearing pyjamas.
Apparently, loads of women there swan down the aisle in their PJs and it’s upsetting other customers.
I have no idea if it’s a fashion trend in Cardiff, but I heartily applaud Tesco’s stance in applying a dress code and escorting nightwear-clad ladies from the store.
Many years ago, I launched a campaign in this very column to stop people from shopping in shorts in the summer. I reasoned it’s not a very British thing because we’ve all got pasty white legs, and the hairs tend to put me off when I’m browsing for fruit and veg.
Funnily enough, this attracted a lot of support from readers.
One mayor even admitted at the time cowering in his car outside Tesco Loudwater for fear of running into me. He’d been wearing shorts on a hot day and was terrified of being exposed by this column.
So Tesco – how about applying the PJ ban to your Bucks stores? Go on, you know you want to.
