Russell Chaney of Loudwater: IN response to your advertised competition I would like to enlighten you as to the myriad advantages of having a bus lane on High Wycombe’s London Road. I have listed these below:
*During the hours of the lane’s operation one is able to avoid driving into the many pot holes that lurk kerbside, ready to trap the unobservant motorist. A saving of at least £100 a week on new tyres is a great bonus in these times of economic hardship. (Add £500 if your suspension’s been wrecked too).
*As you know, the bus lane is intermittently painted along its length from Loudwater to High Wycombe and this enables younger drivers to gain more experience in swerving in and out of lanes to avoid white van and taxi drivers, an important skill to master within the environs of the Chepping district.
*Why go to the optician to have your eyes tested when the council provide those very nice blue and white lane signs with the tiny type-face indicating the times of the lane’s operation? If you can read and absorb the information in 1.5 seconds at 30mph you’ve probably already saved £50 on an unnecessary eye test. (That’s £650 in savings so far!). If you get it wrong, don’t worry there’s a speed camera set up along The Rye to ensure it’s brought to your attention.
*If you’re leaving High Wycombe in the direction of Loudwater and want to turn right opposite a bus lane you will immediately hold up all the traffic behind you.
This allows said motorists to benefit from a marvellous view across The Rye, allowing them to relax a little and neatly deflate any tendency to road rage – standard.
*Buses are much easier to spot coming, they arrive at the next traffic jam a lot quicker and when they break down they have their own 2-mile layby in which to languish with the back seat covering the rear reflectors without holding up yet more traffic.
*And finally... space. Everyone’s always whingeing on about the contracting areas of open space in the South Bucks area. With the bus lane, even in the busiest periods, you are assured of miles of open space being kept clear for us all to enjoy.
So there you have it Steve, the bus lane provides financial gain to the individual, a reduction in road rage, more open spaces for us to enjoy and a free eye test to boot. Now what on earth were you complaining about?!
