WONDERS never cease. I congratulated a council parking attendant in High Wycombe early on Friday as he prepared to give a penalty fine to a woman parked on the pavement.
I thanked the chap and gave him the thumbs-up. And no – I wasn’t being sarcastic.
This was outside my son’s school where some other parents insist on dangerously parking on yellow lines and/or on the pavement. This obstructs other traffic, makes it difficult to cross the road and presents a genuine danger to pupils.
I won’t explicitly name the school, because this thing happens every day across almost every school in the county, and it bewilders me.
I often drive my lad to school but we park legally a safe distance away and walk in – or run when we are late.
Sadly, some others can’t be bothered to do the same thing.
Perhaps they are busier than the editor of the local newspaper? Who knows.
But I cheered when I saw the warden dealing with this. It makes a nice change from them booking someone who has bought the wrong ticket, or has overstayed in a bay for a few minutes or whose ticket has been blown off the dashboard… If they keep on booking the genuine dangerous parkers, I might even start a fan club up for them.
