Did you buy your Christmas gifts in Wycombe?

After polishing off the contents of my lunch box in the grounds of the Parish Church it seemed like a good idea to spend a few moments promenading through the complex.

For the first time in years this lunchtime I was pleased to see EVERY shop in the walkway from the centre of the old Octagon to the entrance door by White Hart Street occupied and open for business.

As I have been saying both here and in my regular column in the printed version of the Bucks Free Press it seems that at the moment Wycombe is on the up.

Today I noticed a new shop selling bags, suitcases and shopping trolleys had opened to join the new discount retailer selling items for a pound and the retail unit occupied by the Wycombe Sound 87.9 radio station.

It's been years since Wycombe had a dedicated retailer selling bags indeed after going into the shop to look around even my good self saw several items that I may well go back later and purchase.

With every new shop that opens comes an addition to the diversity of items you can purchase in the town.

At the foot of the letters page in the printed version of lasts weeks Bucks Free Press was a small article which asked some townspeople the question 'Did you buy your Christmas gifts in Wycombe?'

Now, I find that a very interesting question to ask.

Naturally it goes without saying that my good self always buys my Christmas presents in Wycombe indeed being known by many as 'Mr. Wycombe' it would be unheard of for me to visit any other town to buy gifts.

So I would like to ask that very same question to you. It would be interesting to know how many of the readers of this blog showed loyalty to the town and its traders.

We have the shops, we have the facilities and right now the shopping experience in Wycombe is the best it has been for years so there's really no excuse to jump in your car and visit another town to spend your money.

Unless we show loyalty to the towns traders how will our town flourish? When it comes to shopping my motto is 'Buy British and buy it in Wycombe!' indeed it's a motto of which I am proud.

The only disappointment this year has been with the powers that be and the dreadfully late announcement of the seasonal free parking days in the municipal town centre car parks.

The announcement was far too late indeed by the time yours truly has found out the first free day in the car parks had gone. For those who want to know the only remaining free parking day this year is on the 21st December.

I would like to see some free parking days after Christmas so shoppers can get to the January sales.

We're on a roll here in Wycombe at the moment and a little generosity in the form of more free parking would no doubt put the town centre in a very strong position.
