It's here! 2014 has arrived with as much anticipation as a householder looking forward to a visit from a dustcart that has come to empty the black bins.

We all knew the New Year was coming yet its arrival will mean we are all a year older if not necessarily a year wiser.

To be honest yours truly is glad 2013 is over. I guess last year wasn't that bad overall but I never really seemed to get into it.

Let's face it New Year's Day is a bit of a let down. It maybe a Bank Holiday but what point does it serve?

January 1st is an arbitrary date which has to occur due to the fact the calendar only has twelve months.

If the first day of the year is a time when we look forward why isn't the last day also considered special so we can look back on our achievements? Maybe the first and last day of the year should be treated equally?

So what do we have to look forward to in Wycombe over the next twelve months?

Well, firstly I am hoping the Wycombe Sound radio station applies for a permanent licence to broadcast to our town. Their work over the past few weeks had been excellent and they have been a credit to the community.

In a few months time work will start altering the road layout in the town centre. Can you really see all the through traffic squeezing along Suffield Road and Desborough Road?

My good self can't see the new road layout coping and fear the madcap alterations to the town centre roads could become the biggest farce to hit the town in years.

Will the new road layout see the River Wye return to grace the town once again? I very much doubt it. Indeed I fear the only way the Wye will ever flow through Wycombe will be if there is torrential rain and the culvert to which the river was banished in the 1960's is unable to cope with the volume of water.

Personally yours truly thinks Wycombe is at its strongest for many a year. The town centre is thriving at the moment and the years of decline and stagnation are very slowly being rolled back.

New shops are opening faster than old shops can close down which is always a good sign. Bit by bit, day by day, Wycombe edges towards having every retail unit occupied and when that day comes it will be good for the town.

Oh, and there's one other thing Wycombe can look forward to in 2014, naturally there will be yet more exciting and enthralling blogs from the blogger they call Mr Wycombe, namely my good self.

When it comes to New Year's resolutions in 2014 I intend to raise my standards of decency, purity and integrity to a level which even the Puritans failed to attain. But have no fear as not for one second will you find me bowing to the politically correct brigade whose madcap ideas have ruined our society in recent years.

Maybe you would like to share your New Year's resolutions with us?

Happy New Year to all my readers. 2014 has just arrived so let's embrace it with open arms!

What do you think?
