In which Eris claims credit that may or may not belong to her

Yes, I am going to take at least partial credit for the Bucks Free Press’ sudden interest in new bloggers. Overinflated ego? Maybe. But it’s so much fun.

Just after Edna’s wildly successful guest blog, I received an email from a member of the Bucks Free Press team, asking me to call him. So I did, only to be informed that I was breaking the Terms and Conditions of the site that I had been sent when I first started a blog. At which point, of course, I felt duty bound to point out that I had never been sent the Terms and Conditions; when I started I was told ‘ok, write what you want, we’ll check in with you in a few weeks’. I have been sent the T&C’s now (and will return them, I promise!), and slightly disagree that I was breaking the rules, as I did have the express permission of the individuals involved, blah blah, but I digress.

After Melanie, demoness & Edna’s very well-received blogs, and the idea being bandied around the site that maybe fresh blogger blood is what is needed, suddenly for the first time, as far as I can recall, the BFP are actively seeking new bloggers, encouraging people to get involved.

We have a couple of new blogs now; Ollie’s blog, which I am ridiculously excited about, as I think, judging from the comments he leaves, it will be very interesting and entertaining; Bucks Bites, which I am enjoying reading, it’s nice to have another female on here; and Dave Hampton, which I think will be very informative and hopefully inspire debate and discussion. Demoness I believe has mentioned that she is also starting a blog, which I eagerly await.

I would like to ask the BFP though, please can you ensure that Ollie, Rebecca and demoness (when she is up and running) all appear on the main Blogs page. All bloggers (even the hopelessly irregular ones such as myself) deserve equal standing on the website, and it is unfair if one blogger is far more easily accessible than others.

So yes. The Guest Blogs are no more, but the BFP appear to have taken my idea and run with it on a far grander scale. So huzzah! The aim of the Guest Blogs was for a wider variety of people blogging on the site. And this aim has been achieved. Thanks again to Melanie, demoness and Edna, you guys wrote awesome blogs.

And congratulations and welcome to the new wave of bloggers. Just what this site needed, and long may you all continue to air your views!

Rebecca here. As a new blogger it seemed rude to say, 'Hey, put me on the main blogs page!' Shouldn't I have to earn that prestigious status? Number of hits etc?

But then do I have a fair chance if I'm not on the main blogs page? Round and round it goes...

Hi Rebecca

I first started...blimey, about a year and a half - two years ago I think. Time flies when you are having fun!

As I said, back then I wasn't given the Terms and Conditions, but I was added straight onto the main blog page.

I don't think it should be earnt; if it should, my position there is in jeopardy! We are all bloggers, we all contribute to the site, and there is no reason, in my opinion, that some of us should be made easier to access than others.

End rant!

Biggest problem - not just in the BFreeP columns but generally - is that people equate blogging with 'bashing'.

It doesn't have to be.

Probably just reflects journalism as a whole where most journalists bash away and throw in the odd 'cute animal found in back garden' story or a story about someone walking backwards and on all fours to the North Pole and back for some noble charity.

Just doesn't have to be.

I agree, Plus ça change.
.
My blogs are probably fairly dull, I just write about whatever I fancy (on the rare occasions that I do write!)
.
They are not of earth-shattering importance, but it's my blog, so I write about what I find interesting.
.
For example, I spent a fascinating couple of hours the other day watching the reaction on a freshly decorated wall when air hits it, and the exact point at which one can lean against it without the wall soiling ones clothes.
.
More about this absorbing new habit of mine to come...;-)
