Does the community want a new stadium?

Do you know there is nothing I hate more than when the marketing and PR people get to work.

Things that are plain and simple suddenly take on a meaning that is purely intended to fool the wider public into buying or participating in something.

Now it seems the PR people have been to work on the new stadium proposal for Wycombe.

Did you see the news story on this site yesterday about the plans for the new stadium?

We all know the stadium is being built primarily for the benefit of the rugby and football teams but now the stadium is being branded as the “community” stadium.

By using the word community no doubt many people will be fooled into thinking it will be something that will be useful to them.

How many members of the community have you heard calling for a new stadium? I haven't heard anyone.

If it is going to be a community stadium then surely it would be built in a central place in the town and not possibly miles from the town centre at the aerodrome where the outskirts of Wycombe meet Marlow.

The word community also suggests that everyone will be able to take part however sports are something that only the fittest and most agile members of the community can take part in.

If this is to be a community stadium then maybe the local community should be asked if they want it?

How about a local referendum on the matter before any more money is wasted on the project?

I also see the amount of money allocated to the planning of the project has risen to £750,000. My word this project is just eating money and nothing has even been built.

What do you think the chances are of the feasibility study finding that the aerodrome is not suitable? I have a feeling it is very low so why spent the money in the first place?

Anyway why does the stadium have to be in Wycombe? The Wycombe District is a very large place and surely there are more suitable locations that can be found.

I am still flabbergasted that the powers the be can simply use public funds on a project that our town does not really need. Let's face it a sports stadium is not a necessity.

I feel the money would be better off spent re-opening the A&E department at the hospital.

What do you think?
