Save time and money with an e-Christmas card

By ivor »

With Christmas rapidly approaching there seems so much to be done and so little time in which to do it.

Most of yesterday evening was spent writing Christmas cards to my friends, admittedly I do not have that many friends however it was still quite a time consuming task.

Looking at the pile of neatly written envelopes laid out on top my writing desk made me feel quite chuffed with my effort.

Thankfully I used some of the cards bought in the sales last year so there was no cost for the actual cards or envelopes and the only outlay was some of my time and the second class stamps.

For several days now there has been a steady trickle of cards dropping through the letter box at my home however while my generation still partake in the annual exchange of festive greeting by card it seems most of the youngsters do not.

I even wrote some cards to my colleagues at work and today I proudly went on a walk around the shop floor handing them out.

A few moments later, while battling with the infernal e-mail system, I started receiving e-cards from the people who I had just given a real card to.

It was quite upsetting to think of the time and effort yours truly had put into writing all those cards and in return they simply signed onto their computers to send me the virtual card.

Of course virtual cards are much cheaper but in my opinion they do not carry the same level of personal greeting.

I started printing all the e-cards out but they are not designed to become real cards and there were no marks for folding.

How on earth can I take an e-card home and display it on my mantelpiece?

I would really like to send a Christmas card to all the readers of my blog so, after some thought, I decided to expand the e-card idea and produce one that can become a real card.

My first effort at an e-card that can become a proper card is attached as a picture to this blog. It can be printed out, cut out and folded to become a real card.

Now isn't that a neat idea? Maybe there is mileage in these newfangled e-cards after all.

If only I had thought of this yesterday evening I could have directed all my friends to this blog and they could have downloaded and cut out my e-card indeed it would have saved me the cost of all those stamps.

Are you sending real Christmas cards this year or have you embraced the world of newfangled electronic cards?

Don't forget to download and print out my e-card!

What do you think?

I don't send e cards but I have to admit I am a bit of a scrooge when it comes to Christmas Cards. I only send them to close friends. I don't buy into this 'I have to sen a card to every Tom, Dick and Harry'.

I too only send cards to close friends however I don't think that is being a “Scrooge” at all.
~
I don't understand why some people seem to get lots of cards though especially people who to me aren't all that popular anyway. Maybe they are just lucky?

I think it's often a case with some people of 'look I've got 150 cards to send' leading us to believe they are oh just so popular.

It's a similar case on Facebook, people adding individuals who at best could be called mere acquaintances.

Well, I think that people who blatantly declare how many friends they have must actually be lonely.
~
Do you no think they are trying to make out in their minds they are popular when they know all too well they are not?
~
I only had around ten cards to send through the post and there were probably about fifteen for my colleagues at work.
~
Christmas cards should not be used as a statement of popularity indeed I think they should be used as a recognition of friendship and of work well done throughout the year.

Christmas cards are my biggest bug bear!!! I hate sending them and I hate receiving them. Where am I supposed to put them all?? The cost of stamps!! The time to find to write them all!! E-cards sounds like a much better idea. Alas the only techy thing I can do is reply to Ivors blog.

Don't get me wrong I love Christmas, yours truly even had her tree up the weekend after bonfire night!!! But Christmas cards, sorry I just can't be bothered.

Do all your friends have email accounts then Igor?
.
Do you not send cards to relatives?
.
Have you used up all of your third class stamps now?
.
I bet your shop-floor colleagues were chuffed to get a card from you, each.

Why do you hate receiving Christmas cards? Surely that is not something to be despised?
~
If the only technical thing you can do is reply to my blog then at least you can do something worthwhile!
~
I wish my tree had been up just after bonfire night indeed I do like my tree so much and this year it looks so spectacular.

No, not all my friends have e-mail accounts indeed some of them don't even have mobile phones or computers. Even if you don't have an e-mail account you can print out my e-card that is attached to this blog.
~
Indeed my colleagues were very pleased to receive a card from me....

I would be interested to hear form any readers who printed out and folded up my e-card which is attached at the picture to this blog.
~
What did you think to the card? Did you find it easy to assemble? What did your friends say to it?

best thing I ever did (aside from divorce, horseplay and dangerous liaisons) was to stop sending Christmas cards. My life functions completely fine without doing so. It's easier than you think!

Well, I did send a few cards this year but maybe I should given them up next year?
~
Do you not feel guilty when someone sends you a card and you do not send on in return?

"send on"??
Is that what you really meant, Igor?
.
Or have your typing (oops! "writing") skills deserted you again?
.
Anyway, I "forgot" to do a trial print-out of your card. So I came back here, to do so.
Nah, I really can't do it.
I'd be ashamed to give anybody a picture of High Wycombe, under the guise of a festive greeting.
.
I do feel better though, as I've saved another tree.
.
& being the season of good will:-
Merry Christmas to you all

Oh, it should have been “send one”. The spelling checker has let me down yet again.

I would have thought that you would have printed out my Christmas card.
~
What's wrong with a picture of Wycombe as a festive greeting?
~
Has anyone printed out the card? I spent ages preparing that image and it seems nobody has even printed it out and turned it into a card....
