The snow has arrived

By ivor »

The first snow flake of winter has fallen.

Earlier this evening I looked out my dining room window to see a child throw the first snowball and a few moments later yours truly saw the first person slip and fall over.

Watching the poor pedestrian trying to remain on their feet made me chuckle indeed it was just like a vintage episode of It's a Knockout from the 1970's.

The road had obviously been salted and despite a thin layer of snow obscuring the grey of the road surface it was initially still passable.

As time passed and with the constant snowfall the road has succumbed and now the sound of screeching tyres struggling to gain grip on the icy road surface fills the air.

The only traffic is from four wheel drive vehicles and the drivers were rushing past at full speed without the slightest concern for their safety or the safety of others.

Why it is that some people always act recklessly when the situations around them requires caution?

Earlier in the week the nearby grit bin beside the road was raided by a neighbour who just carried off the grit in a bucket for their own personal use. I think taking grit like that should be a criminal offence.

The local wildlife was also aware of the impending inclement weather indeed early in the afternoon the birds were busy stripping the last renaming apples from my tree and they didn't have the benefit of a weather forecast.

No doubt the anger of the masses over the impassable roads will be directed at those responsible for gritting who are themselves at the mercy of the elements.

Providing the powers that be don't try to make excuses by citing the “wrong type of snow” or other lightweight get out clause I have only sympathy for them.

Let's face it we live in the northern hemisphere and snow is all part and parcel of our climate but its how we deal with it that matters.

If the main roads are still blocked on Monday then I fear there will be cause for complaint.

Even if we are still snowed in on Monday then I do hope that we don't start hearing of schools being closed and teachers having time off lounging around at home as a result.

With all the modern technology surely it should be possible to teach children using the newfangled internet?

Its at times like these that we should be pulling together as a community, no doubt more people will be walking in the streets and meeting those who live around them. I always bid good morning to everyone I pass by but not many people reciprocate.

On the subject of the local community please keep an eye out for any elderly neighbours living close by and make sure there are signs of life at their houses such as lights coming on at night and the milk being taken in.

At times like these the vulnerable in the community deserve all the care and help in the world after all they are even more isolated than during normal times.

We still all hate you although this is only a blog about grit, snow and neighbourliness.

(BTW it IS a criminal offence to take grit the way your neighbour did.)

It muse be terrible for you going around hating people.... Why not be nice for once?

Taking grit is common place in some parts of town indeed if it is a criminal offence to take the grit it will be interesting to know how many arrests are made by the police for it this year....

Indeed I agree with you.

The constant hatred directed towards me is completely uncalled for and its getting a bit boring however I think it is only being said to drive away other people from commenting on the blog.

I can't believe there were still apples on your tree Ivor!
After all, on your restricted budget, you need all the free food you can get.
You also need some fruit in your diet!!

Igot, rather that writing more drivel when will you take time to correct the nonsense you wrote in the blog The buildings of Wycombe: 13 Queens Square?

Igor,
The photo you have used says "Photo by Ivor" yet underneath, it clearly states "Snow in Wycombe (archive picture)." Are all our accusations that you are in the employment of the BFP true?

If they are true, isn't it about time the BFP put out a legal statement witch each of your blogs explaining that the majority of these blogs are fiction?

The easy way to stop this would be to answer the many questions, without obfuscation or avoidance.

Nooo... You've got it all wrong, as is to be expected.

Our aim is not to drive others away, our aim is to get you to tell the truth, which is proving to be a non-starter.

You will be honest in any way, and will continue with the lies.

Therefore, it is our duty to point out to the good BFP readership, that they are being subjected to lies and fiction, with occasional perversions thrown in, just to cause controversy or anger.

It’s all down to you as to how we continue….

I always leave a few apples on the higher branches of the tree for the birds to eat in the winter, besides even with my longest ladder yours truly is unable to reach the fruit right at the top of the tree.

I can assure you that all the fruit that could be picked was.

The photo was from my own archive all of which I took with my own trusty electric camera. I only marked it as a “archive picture” to stop the clever people pointing out that several of the shops featured have in fact closed down since it was taken.

I can assure you there is no need to add a disclaimer on my blogs....

That's a question we all ask, but the answer is probably, to get your comment count up.

This is why we will often see duplicate entries, which you also refuse to remove.

You know full well that the comments were duplicated far more than twice, yet you refused point blank to remove the duplicates, citing claims that you were altering or editing the content. This was yet another bogus claim, as deleting multiple duplicate entries would diminish your raison d'etre…

Ivor, Nonsensical comment about the NORTHERN Hemisphere. The Sahara, Saudi Arabia and Death Valley are all in the NORTHERN hemisphere!

On a positive note, here in Lane End, the road up from Sands WAS gritted and ploughed on Saturday night. This made a HUGE difference over the last two years when it wasn't. The road was clear and passable by mid Sunday. Even the buses were running! Couldn't believe Lane End Primary was closed yesterday!

Kind of like that peado blog you were very quick to adjust(when you knew you had gone too far).
