World Book Day – This Thursday

My daughter’s school makes World Book Day a big event. Children are invited to dress up as a character from a book they’ve read. Last year she knew in January what she wanted to be. This year, well, we’re struggling.

Valentines Day looms: so why not check out the divorce statistics?

Having just begun to surface after Christmas, I’m now aware that Valentine’s Day is upon me. There’s red everywhere. (Though for those not anywhere near a relationship, shops are also displaying Easter goods.) I imagine roses and romantic dinners and proposals on bended knees. As I ponder the cost of this day, I start to wonder what Valentines Day is for.
