This is quite possibly the most worthwhile blog I have written.
I am hugely disappointed in the BFP for not having covered this themselves; I would have expected them to.
As I am sure you all know, in the mezzanine of the library exhibitions visit, and stay for a couple of weeks at a time. There has been an art exhibition in the mezzanine for a week, and it is due to stay for a week longer.
The artist’s name is Elizabeth Anne Hoyle, and she is the most local of local artists. She went to local schools from the ages of 5 - 18 years old, and did an art foundation course at what is now Bucks New Uni. She has displayed an incredibly talent for art since she was very young, and her work can still be seen adorning the walls of her primary school, as at the age of 11 she was asked to paint a mural for them in their library.
Since then, she has only become more skilled, honed her talents more finely.
Her current exhibition ‘Are You Sitting Comfortably?’ is subtitled ‘Stories, Myths and Sleepless Dreams’, and features fairytales and myths, often with a twist. I went to visit this exhibition last Thursday, and was struck by a number of pieces. The classics student in me was drawn to ‘Metamorphoses’, whilst the Red Shoes picture appealed to the Grimm Brothers fan side of me. The majority of the pieces are for sale, and I do in fact have my eye on one; if it is still available when I get paid then I am snapping it up in a heartbeat.
I have owned a piece of Elizabeth Anne Hoyle’s art since I was 17 years old; a rendition of ‘Cupid and Psyche’, which is my favourite Greek myth. In the last seven years, she has moved from being an amazing artist to being a phenomenal one.
I am hoping to receive some pictures of the art from the artist herself, and once I receive these I will edit the blog and post them.
Elizabeth Anne Hoyle has the talent to go far as an artist, and we in Wycombe are honoured to have talent such as hers so locally to us. Elizabeth has grown up in this town, and we as a town should support local young people.
The opening times for the Wycombe Library are as follows: Monday Closed, Tuesday 9.30am - 8pm, Wednesday 9.30am - 5.30pm, Thursday 9.30am - 8pm, Friday 9.30am - 5.30pm, Saturday 9.30am - 5.30pm, Sunday 11.00am - 5pm
Elizabeth’s exhibition runs until 20th April. I implore you; take ½ hour out of your weekend and have a look. I have included a link to her website, so you can see what I am talking about when I refer to her ‘talent’.
As I have said, most of the pieces in the exhibition are for sale, and Elizabeth also accept commissioned work.
If you do nothing else this week, go and take a look. You will not be disappointed.
