Its about to get colder

By ivor »

What a dull, grey day it has been.

Removing the frost from my trusty car this morning the chill in the air was very reminiscent of snow indeed I fear it wont be long before the world is covered in some of the white stuff.

According to the weather forecast temperatures are likely to dip as low as minus seven on Wednesday night and the rest of February isn’t exactly looking pleasant either.

It sounds as if my historic coal boiler will be working at full capacity over the next few days keeping my home nice and warm.

I shall also have to keep a sharp eye on my electricity monitor to make sure that too much money isn’t eaten up over the next few days after all the last thing I need is a hefty electricity bill dropping on my doormat.

Thankfully I have kept with the same electricity supplier for years and despite their repeated attempts my billing details have remained the same.

Recently a friend of mine succumbed to the endless marketing bumph sent out by the energy companies and changed both their supplier and tariff.

At the time they thought it was a good idea indeed only the other week my friend was proudly telling me how they had signed up to have their energy prices fixed for several years.

A short while after my friend signed up the supplier dropped their energy price leaving them paying far more than if they had done nothing.

It just shows how easily you can be caught out by committing to long term deals and that prices can go down as well as up.

Sometimes I wonder why all these different energy companies exist at all indeed we never had then years ago.

How on earth can several different companies sell electricity that runs down the same cable? Its a problem that has always baffled me.

Heating is an essential during cold weather and I don’t think it right that some pensioners and other vulnerable people are now in the position where they are committed to buy energy at inflated prices.

On a different note, please don’t forget the birds and other animals who will be needing every ounce of food they can get over the next few days to see them through the forthcoming cold snap.

Dear Ivor,

It certainly is chilly. I've recently turned to wearing a housecoat with a fur trim. For a more instant warmth I recall embarrassing or humiliating moments: it's amazing the internal heat mortification can generate. Perhaps you can do the same by recalling The Blog That Shall Not Be Named And That Lost Ivor His Friends.
.
What about the grand fireplaces of Bigun Hall? (but then what does a simple like me know about the price and availability of firewood). Do you own an axe?
.
The ownership of British utilities would make an interesting blog - we are mainly run by other countries.
.
By the way, there ought to be an apostrophe in the title's 'Its'. As your blogs tend to climb their way to the front page, I thought I would help the subeditors save face.

Hello Edna, maybe I should wear a suit jacket in the house? I usually wear the trousers from a suit with a proper collar and tie while the matching jacket just hang in the wardrobe. It could certainly raise my dress standards as I do the odd jobs around the house.
~
I was hoping to forget that blog to which you refer, to thise very day I regret writing it and losing my friends. I often wonder how every one is but alas its unlikely we shall hear from them now.
~
Indeed the Hall does have fire places but they are no longer used as the central heating has taken over however not every room has central heating and I tend to just leave door open to ley the warm air waft in.
~
Actually I have an old fireman’s axe from the second world war, its a most potent weapon. I have to be careful when using it but I can honestly say that I have a really big chopper.
~
Maybe I should do a blog on the ownership of the utilities. I will put it on the list....
~
I don't think anyone will notice the missing apostrophe, the last thing I want to do is get in trouble for changing a blog....

Maybe I should wear a hat too? I have an old bowler laying around somewhere and it would go quite nicely with my suit however I was brought up to believe that its rude for a gentleman to put on head ware indoors....

It's rude to say he has a big chopper as well and the slang date shim.

The editor and subeditors couldn't care less - I recently pointed out twice to them that the word 'prostate' was misspelt 'prostrate' in a headline and they left it unaltered - they were probably preoccupied with thinking about something important like football.

Ivor will you answer the questions in your blog about the building you clearly made the information up about or are you going to do the usual and ignore everybody if it doesnt suit you to reply?

Oh no there isn't.

Lies, lies and more lies. All you ever do is tell lies.

You're nothing more than a perpetual liar.

No, hold on a moment... The evidence to date would indicate that there is almost zero doubt that you are a liar.
