Is there too much obscenity in modern society?
7:39pm Thursday 26th April 2012 in Your Say By ivor
I arrived home this evening tired out after being hard at work all day.
As usual the first thing yours truly did was to switch on my computer and take a look at the Bucks Free Press website to catch up on the latest developments in Wycombe.
Today I was greeted with a news story about a violinist who posed for a picture without out any clothes on and holding only a violin to protect their modesty.
After seeing the vile, disgusting, perverted and depraved picture that accompanied the news article yours truly had to sit down in my arm chair for a good half hour to recover.
Seeing the picture almost put me off my tea and I am still traumatised at this very moment.
Sadly this is just the sort of thing that has come to typify the modern world in which we live.
No matter where we turn there are risqué images. They can be found on advertising boards, in newspapers, on the sides of buses, on the internet and on television. It seems there is no escape from them.
As far as I am concerned everyone of these dreadful pictures was taken with Lucifer's very own camera.
In the 1970's we were also plagued with obscenity but back then we had the wonderful Mary Whitehouse spearheading the fight against filth but today nobody is continuing the battle.
If you do try to make a stance it seems that things are stacked against you.
Recently I was looking at at well known internet auction site, I happened to be browsing property that was for sale or to let. All I was doing was typing in areas of London and seeing how the prices compared.
After searching for Notting Hill Gate, Wandsworth and Hammersmith I quite innocently typed in Mayfair and what came back shocked me.
Instead of pictures of houses the search returned pictures of top shelf magazines that were for sale. Naturally I pressed the button to report the items to the site administrator.
It turns out there are an awful lot more similar publications like that openly for sale on this auction site indeed they have a whole section devoted to them so I decided it was time for a clean up.
Wearing a pair of darkened sunglasses to prevent me seeing the full hideousness of the images yours truly started reporting the items for sale one by one.
After a while the system decided that I had reported too many items and it started asking me to type in a validation code, or catchpa as they are known, for each item thus hampering my effort to clean the site up.
The children of today have television and internet in their rooms meaning they are fully exposed to these sort of pictures and I do not think it to be right.
It must be awful being a parent trying to protect a youngster from such dreadful things.
Its about time the Government took measures to allow the children to grow up free from such influences as well as protecting those of us who want to lead clean and pure lives.
There is no place for filth and obscenity and its about time something was done as I fear that day by day we are sinking further into the sea of depravity.
Are you worried by the dreadful images that have become commonplace in society today or maybe you are a parent and would like to share your concerns with us?
Leave a comment below to let us know your feelings.
What do you think?

I have very high moral standards and do not wish to view such pictures myself in case I am corrupted.

If people are unhappy about publicity then why allow the pictures to be taken in the first place then there is no danger of them ever being seen and publicity will not follow.
~
Don't you think the picture is a bit close? There is no need to worry about me, if only more people had my high moral standards the world would be a better place.

Well, my dreadful problem with obesity means that I am very large and therefore very big in fact most of my family have suffered from the same problem. We also tend to have things that are larger, bigger and better than others like our ancestral home and trusty historic car therefore everything related to us seems to be big. To top it all off we have the rather appropriate name of Bigun.

I call my house Bigun Hall because it's very large. In the very loose grading system that applies to English houses a Hall is a house with large grounds just like a Castle is a fortified residence and a Manor is where the local lord lived. What else am I supposed to call my house? If I said it was 25 Ajax Avenue then everyone would be coming round and knocking on my door....

The article in question suggests that she is unhappy about the publicity, and I'm sure it won't help having a representative of the newspaper refer to her in this manner.
For me the worrying thing is people like you, who feel that a fairly inoccent picture is obscene. Micaelangelo's David is more graphic.
