Is there too much obscenity in modern society?

I arrived home this evening tired out after being hard at work all day.

As usual the first thing yours truly did was to switch on my computer and take a look at the Bucks Free Press website to catch up on the latest developments in Wycombe.

Today I was greeted with a news story about a violinist who posed for a picture without out any clothes on and holding only a violin to protect their modesty.

After seeing the vile, disgusting, perverted and depraved picture that accompanied the news article yours truly had to sit down in my arm chair for a good half hour to recover.

Seeing the picture almost put me off my tea and I am still traumatised at this very moment.

Sadly this is just the sort of thing that has come to typify the modern world in which we live.

No matter where we turn there are risqué images. They can be found on advertising boards, in newspapers, on the sides of buses, on the internet and on television. It seems there is no escape from them.

As far as I am concerned everyone of these dreadful pictures was taken with Lucifer's very own camera.

In the 1970's we were also plagued with obscenity but back then we had the wonderful Mary Whitehouse spearheading the fight against filth but today nobody is continuing the battle.

If you do try to make a stance it seems that things are stacked against you.

Recently I was looking at at well known internet auction site, I happened to be browsing property that was for sale or to let. All I was doing was typing in areas of London and seeing how the prices compared.

After searching for Notting Hill Gate, Wandsworth and Hammersmith I quite innocently typed in Mayfair and what came back shocked me.

Instead of pictures of houses the search returned pictures of top shelf magazines that were for sale. Naturally I pressed the button to report the items to the site administrator.

It turns out there are an awful lot more similar publications like that openly for sale on this auction site indeed they have a whole section devoted to them so I decided it was time for a clean up.

Wearing a pair of darkened sunglasses to prevent me seeing the full hideousness of the images yours truly started reporting the items for sale one by one.

After a while the system decided that I had reported too many items and it started asking me to type in a validation code, or catchpa as they are known, for each item thus hampering my effort to clean the site up.

The children of today have television and internet in their rooms meaning they are fully exposed to these sort of pictures and I do not think it to be right.

It must be awful being a parent trying to protect a youngster from such dreadful things.

Its about time the Government took measures to allow the children to grow up free from such influences as well as protecting those of us who want to lead clean and pure lives.

There is no place for filth and obscenity and its about time something was done as I fear that day by day we are sinking further into the sea of depravity.

Are you worried by the dreadful images that have become commonplace in society today or maybe you are a parent and would like to share your concerns with us?

Leave a comment below to let us know your feelings.

What do you think?

There is nothing "vile, disgusting, perverted and depraved" about the photo of local resident Analiza Ching.

The article in question suggests that she is unhappy about the publicity, and I'm sure it won't help having a representative of the newspaper refer to her in this manner.

For me the worrying thing is people like you, who feel that a fairly inoccent picture is obscene. Micaelangelo's David is more graphic.

I have very high moral standards and do not wish to view such pictures myself in case I am corrupted.

If people are unhappy about publicity then why allow the pictures to be taken in the first place then there is no danger of them ever being seen and publicity will not follow.

Don't you think the picture is a bit close? There is no need to worry about me, if only more people had my high moral standards the world would be a better place.

LOL - there's some remark along these lines (couched guardedly in Victorian prose) by George Eliot about Mr Casaubon - after he marries Dorothea he discovers the torrents of passion he has been saving for married life have become mere rivulets - or something like that.

As a man of action I am sure in your contact with the Editor you have already made it clear that you will not be publishing any more blogs until the aforementioned apology is published, because a man of your high moral standards surely would not want to be associated with a publication that publishes such a material.

Sai-diva – I am sorry people who disapprove of igor and his Blog of Evil are posting on it again. I must admit you have the honesty not to claim that people are being ‘drowned out’ by me and Alberto but if you want ‘not to join in Impeturbable Lawrence's game’ – then the answer is simple – just don’t – you can always shut up. It’s really not your concern what I put on here – I enjoy it and it seriously affects no one else.
Now for the thoughtful part - as you have mentioned the Reverend Peter Simpson I would like to air an idea I have had on my mind for some time - why don’t ivor and the Reverend Peter Simpson of Penn Free Methodist Church, GET TOGETHER and do a regular blog containing Christian religious conservatism AND sandwich fillings – a great idea or not?

igor and his Blog of Evil fulfil a very useful function in High Wycombe – the comments section allows lunatics to harmlessly vent their anger and obsessions online – without this release they might be wandering the streets with knives, guns and suppressed rage, instead of honing witticisms for the Internet.

I'm not sure what can be obscene about a naked body.........well ok, apart from some of those Sunday Sport types maybe. Some of the most famous piantings and scultures are of naked flesh so I doubt whether a picture of a woman with a violin is any different.

Well, my dreadful problem with obesity means that I am very large and therefore very big in fact most of my family have suffered from the same problem. Everything you write is deliberately created to provoke a reaction, and often intended to be a negative reaction, in order to boost the comment count.

You use sex, and controversy throughout your blogs, and your name is the most offensive of all.

That's all well and good Ivor, but to preach from the moral high-ground one must be scrupulous in practising morality. Ivor Bigun doesn't really cut the mustard does it. I call my house Bigun Hall because it's very large. You’ve got a bit of a cheek writing that - I've already answered this stuff - you brought me into it by mentioning me by name - as I said before:

'... if you want ‘not to join in Impeturbable Lawrence's game’ – then the answer is simple – just don’t – you can always shut up. It’s really not your concern what I put on here – I enjoy it and it seriously affects no one else.'

I don't recall replying to anyone in my entire life with one word when half a dozen (or more) would do the job. I don't think what I put here is childish or boring - if you do then ignore it.

‘I tried really hard not to join in ImpeturbableLawrence 's game’ Saying you did not want to join in my game is implicitly telling me I should not be posting on here and that you don't want to join in - so try even harder and don’t join in.

Take a walk around the National Gallery and you will see many images of naked women painted well over 100 years ago. What is more their 'naughty bits' are not coverd by violins. (Don't forget your sunglasses - in fact I recommend that you take a welder's helmet).
