A cat's eye view along the road of ...life.

A recipe..

By Fractal »

Recipe:- How to keep 4yr olds amused. (Please Note - If dirty clothes are a problem to you in any way, it is probably best avoided.) Ingredients:- A freshly-dug patch of garden. Raked or not is a personal preference, the outcome will be the same.

1 hand-trowel.

1 bucket.

1 garden sieve.

A few sundry pieces of wood. Best in smaller pieces.

A 4year old. (though with careful practice this age can be extended for subsequent visits from older children). It is an interesting addition is to allow the garden to get soaked with rain before introducing child. Mud holds a particular fascination for most ages.

Method:- Place the above items around the designated area of garden. A haphazzard approach works fine.

Introduce child. At this point add strict instructions - Under no account must any stones be placed in the bucket. And there must certainly not be any part of the garden, sieved. (Create your own for added zest.

The finished product:- For that added piquaunt quality, be aware of the beauty of the above when in the delicious knowledge that grandchildren can be handed back at the end of the day! :)

I suppose for added pleasure you could always tell them 'not to fill their pockets with worms/woodlice etc' but there may be a chance that their parents wouldn't be so keen to let you babysit again!
