Well, it has all been said before that HS2 is a waste of time and money but has anyone come up with an imaginative alternative to it (frantically waving a ‘me’ flag).
HS2 is a 20th century solution to a 19th century problem – getting to work a lot quicker. Unfortunately for HS2, work is no longer a location, it is an activity. How about a 21st century solution? Everyone works on trains, what is needed is work space not faster travel.
Why not convert some, if not all, first class compartments into meeting/conference rooms? IT and WiFi equipped rooms on trains could be a real boon to time pressed business people move. Imagine having a meeting room with full teleconferencing facilities... . If we can have a Quiet Zone why can’t we have a Business Zone? Of course, I’m guessing but the cost of conversion should be a lot less then £50 billion... just a thought.
