I write to support Cllr Gary Hall’s letter (Letters, March 14), where he spoke in defence to the idea of Wycombe having its own town council.

I am sure someone such as Cllr Tony Green from the Conservatives will also write into the paper with the opposing view, whereby he/they will think Wycombe is a perfect place to show what a wonderful and vibrant town centre we have and they are doing a terribly nice service to us all and have done over the many years WDC have kept a tight control on things, politically.

Not forgetting that I was once upon a time also on the ‘inside’ along with Cllr Tony Green, Lesley Clarke, etc. I myself found it very frustrating not much ever got done and that having a town council would be a very positive move for Wycombe.

For nearly 10 years they would debate what to do with the pigeons in the town (which, by the way, are still here!) The only true reason why it’s not given is so WDC controlled by the rural Tory councillors get to keep power and they know there is nothing that can be done for the people of the town to change anything.

We don’t live in a democracy if the people don’t get to decide what’s best for our town – I call that a dictatorship.

The solution to the bad town planning outside of Eden is; create a town council, have local people give input into what they want into their town centre, merge both the districts and county council together and end the monopoly that us in Wycombe have had to put up with for many years under a rural Wycombe district rule.

After all why is it that Marlow is allowed to have its own town council and Wycombe isn’t? — Cllr Darren Hayday, Independent Bucks County Councillor (West Wycombe), Deputy Leader of the Opposition
