COUNCILLOR Roger Colomb is clearly missing his vocation in life, with his misrepresentation of figures last week (Letters, March 28) to help prove his point.

Roger and I both know only too well (because we have discussed the matter) that Princes Risborough Town Council, and therefore its resident taxpayers, are forced to pay for a number of expensive services, such as street lighting, when High Wycombe Town Committee residents and taxpayers do not. The HWTC pays around £8,000 per year for its street lighting, the majority of the lighting in that huge town being funded by Conservative-controlled Bucks County Council.

Princes Risborough Town Council, on the other hand, has to fully fund all of its 520 street lights through its own local precept taxation, which over the past 20 years has cost its resident taxpayers jointly the best part of £1,000,000.

Despite repeated requests to BCC to fund all of Risborough’s street lights, BCC refuses to do so but oddly carries on funding High Wycombe’s.

Cllr Colomb is an old hat at politics, but waving the Conservative flag or whatever flag of convenience he supports these days, and claiming “aren’t we cheap and aren’t we better than those nasty town and parish councils” is misleading to say the least. — Cllr Gary Hall (IND), Princes Risborough Town Council, Wycombe District Council
