Have any of your other readers seen the very rare pure white squirrel in the Loudwater or High Wycombe area? This little creature turned up last Monday in the gardens of the London Road/ Kingsmead Park area.

Estimates vary, but it’s thought that only one in every 100,000 squirrels is white.

I sent a photo to wildlife experts who told me the squirrel isn’t an albino but a rare white squirrel who has leucism – a recessive gene in grey squirrels which turns them pure white while their eyes remain black. This makes it even rarer than the albino squirrels that sometimes appear in the newspapers.

Being an amateur wildlife photographer and blogger I’m used to snapping the squirrels of Loudwater but to have such a rarity turn up — it’s like winning the wildlife lottery! He/she’s earned the nickname Bianca, for obvious reasons. — Emma Tingay, Winchester Court, High Wycombe
