What untidy people we have become. On my walk to get my newspaper – about 500 yards – I regularly pick up a full carrier bag of litter, mostly drinks cans, plastic bottles and crisp packets, which I deposit in one of the many litter bins en route. Also en route there are five discarded traffic cones and the same amount of easel-shaped road work signs that have been left long after any road works have been carried out. They are just lying in the grass by the roadside. Is anyone responsible for clearing these? They can be easily spotted on the approach to the Marlow and Bourne End roundabout on the A415. There is also a large one at the end of the slipway on to the A404 bypass.

The council is saving huge amounts of money by not cutting the grass edges, putting weed killer on kerbs, cleaning road signs and cutting back branches obscuring road signs so perhaps feel they don’t need to pick up their own litter any more.

Marlow is such a lovely place and I feel privileged to live here but I do despair at how untidy it is. — June Highgate, Elmtrees Park, Little Marlow
