When Seb Coe and Livingston pulled off the surprise coup of obtaining the 2012 London Olympics it was very much due to the commitment of the team to roll out the Olympic Legacy for future generations.
Now a bunch of nitwits at Hazlemere Parish Council intend to short circuit an excellent sport setup at the public area which caters for local residents of all ages to enjoy football, tennis, lawn bowls, croquet etc at modest subscriptions run by volunteers.
The attempt to raise the peppercorn rent £1 lease to £40,000+ can only be described as vandalism.
A first year economics student knows that rents are price determined, not price determining.
For example, if I wanted to set up a ‘chippy’ in Park Lane, I couldn’t charge £100 per portion to pay the rent!
It seems the council that keeps any plan B secret is not willing to enter into meaningful discussions with the Hazlemere Sports Association.
Ken Williams, whose name is on the pavilion was a councillor who gave a big chunk of his life to build up the area.
He was secretary of the tennis club when we joined 45 years ago. At the age of 70 he was helping to lay the concrete around the tennis hut.
Perhaps the new name will be the Mapletoft Health Spa for Hedge Fund Traders?
