Two weeks ago you kindly published a letter by me suggesting Mike Appleyard explain further how he was able to claim that ‘...every single child who qualifies in the 11+ for a grammar school and lives in Bucks gets a place’ when half the places in grammar schools in the county are for children from outside Bucks.
I don’t know if he has made any kind of response so far, but I will predict now that he will not respond as his statement, like the present system of ‘selection’, cannot be defended beyond first sight, in a rational manner.
(I also suspect that Philip Wayne is not going to clarify further the remarks he made to the Observer concerning the new possibly coaching-resistant 11+ last year.) – Lawrence Linehan, Wooburn Green
