It was brolly silly watching Prince Edward in the rain

MANY things have been said about the new Eden shopping centre in High Wycombe, but on the whole most people think as I do that it is a big improvement and something we should enjoy.

The one thing I cannot get my head around is why they never continued the roof up to the new libary.

I went to town on Wednesday to watch Prince Edward open the new centre and stood outside Marks & Spencer for half an hour waiting for the event to start.

It was pouring with rain and everybody coming out of what-must-be the most popular store in the new centre had to resort to putting on coats or raising umberellas to walk the 54 yards to cover.

They even supplied the prince with a brolly, to walk the short distance to reach the dry area.

To me, this is madness. The council should think about finding the money and extending the roof so you can visit all shops without getting wet.

The failure to create a roof that covers the whole shopping area is a major design fault in the new complex. Even where there is a roof the rain leaks in on to the shoppers below making for a rather unpleasant shopping experience. For £300m the shoppers should be able to walk and shop in the whole complex in the dry.

The complex could have provided Wycombe with a top notch shopping experience instead people are talking about it because of what it doesn’t provide rather than what it does and amazingly that list also includes shelter from the rain!

Even the cave men realised that shelter from the elements in a basic necessity!
