AS A motorist I endorse other letter writers' sentiments regarding our neglected road margins, but as a cyclist I am aware that their effect is much worse.
Cyclists are expected to keep to this part of the highway, and for us potholes can be deadly. (Hit pothole Lose control.
Fall under bus. End of story.) Which is why I am very concerned at what I read of Wycombe District Council's Cycle Network for Marlow initiative, ie, I see no stress on improving the state of the road margins between the suggested off-road cycle routes. The council claims the aim of this network is to get more people cycling. I fear that the net effect will be to get more people cycling on Marlow's pavements.
The strength of a chain is the strength of its weakest link.
