I SAW something on Monday last that cheered me no end - two litter pickers, whom I assumed to be from the council, walking around the Everest Road, Terryfield Road, Hunt Road area picking up litter.
As I take my daily early morning walk, it saddens me to see the rubbish thrown on the floor, coke cans, chip packets, last night's fish and chip wrappers - it is everywhere.
The children going to school are among the worst offenders, as they walk along Hillary Road, a can of coke in one hand and a packet of crisps in the other.
One girl had her head tipped back as she poured the drink down her throat. I was wondering as I walked behind her where the can and crisp packet would go when she had finished, but I saw the answer when both went on the ground.
What an advert for her and her school - she was in uniform.
If I see a coke can or crisp packet outside our house, I go out and pick it up. It takes two minutes and I feel as if I am doing my bit to keep our road a little bit tidy.
So thank you litter pickers, long may you reign and I hope that we will see you both on a regular basis, and your yellow tunics looked nice, with their blue bags for the litter.
