RE: Last week’s letter from A W Phillips of Beaconsfield referring to interruptions of television satellite signals and asking if any other readers had similar experiences.
WE have a similar problem to Mr Phillips only more severe.
For a year or two we have had poor reception from a satellite dish during summer months and particularly during wet weather.
This year we have lost all signals completely so we called in a satellite specialist to confirm our theory, which was that an ash tree, in a “nature reserve” managed by Wycombe District Council had grown to such an extent, that it is now blocking our reception. He also reported that the tree is so large that there is nowhere on our property that the dish could be placed in order to give us reception, the satellite being situated at such a shallow angle to the horizon.
We are further disadvantaged in that we can get only a terrestrial signal from Downley which transmits a very weak signal on only four channels and does not support Freeview.
I am in correspondence with WDC but fear that they are not going to be very helpful. All this comes in the year when I received my free television licence.
Roy Harris, Bowden Lane, High Wycombe.
EDITOR’S NOTE: Mr Phillips contacted us this week to say his satellite problems now appear to be resolved after some nearby tree maintenance.
