They should help volunteers rescue a lovely family pool

RE: The closure of Holywell Mead Swimming Pool and Wycombe District Council’s rejection of what it believes to be an unworkable business plan by a voluntary steering group who wish to run it.

AT the recent public meeting, Cllr Clarke said that Wycombe District Council is not here to provide a service, in the sense of expert guidance on the group’s plan, to make it viable (more viable than WDC’s own plans, which have brought the pool to closure!). In other words, WDC regards the group as a business, which should have its own expertise. I say that WDC is here to provide a service, if in the interests of the community; and swimming is undoubtedly good for us and the pool a lovely, quiet place, for family fun, in the summer.

Cllr Teasdale said, with passion, that a viable plan to keep the pool would have her support.

I therefore ask the cabinet to reconsider its role, in this matter, especially since the group’s aims are to run the pool at no cost to council tax payers, and offer the group some help.
