OPEN letter to the customer services department at Buckinghamshire County Council.
I AM writing in connection with the appalling lack of gritted roads in the High Wycombe area this morning, the 1st February 2010.
The road between Lane End and High Wycombe town centre which runs through Sands was gridlocked due to cars skidding on untreated roads.
The hill at Sands was treacherous and the lorries trying to get into the Sands Industrial Estate were jackknifing on roads which resembled ice rinks.
Why when the weather forecast was clearly stating heavy frost were none of the key arterial roads gritted?
A journey which would normally take 15 minutes took over one hour.
My colleagues travelling from the opposite side of High Wycombe in the Hughenden area had an equally hazardous journey with roads not gritted and cars sliding into each other.
The only benefit of the recent spate of crater-sized potholes is that they were being used as a means of stopping cars which were out of control!
I look forward to receiving your explanation as to why the roads were not gritted and why when we pay considerable local taxes that the service we are receiving is so poor.
Helen Anderson, Church Road, Land End.
