Will they wait until an accident happens?

THE roads in and around Marlow are riddled with potholes and many drivers have experienced damaged wheels.

The few holes that have been filled in are only the larger ones, leaving the smaller ones to increase in size, requiring a return visit by the workmen a few days later.

Last week, I saw two council workmen, with a lorry and a load of equipment, spend a couple of hours in the High Street STRAIGHTENING A PARKING SIGNPOST which was leaning very slightly.

I also noticed that we are spending many thousands of pounds installing a footpath in Higginson Park.

There must be many more unnecessary (in the current financial climate) jobs like this going on in the area.

Where are the priorities?

When I enquired at the Marlow Council Offices, I was told ‘Oh, that’s a different budget’ and ‘Oh, that’s a different department’.

Split responsibilities are probably favoured because then nobody can be held accountable.

Surely somebody in the council is coordinating priorities among the various layers of bureaucracy and departments?

Perhaps they are happy to continue spending my taxes inefficiently, until, God forbid, there is a fatal accident due to a pothole?

J Stephenson, Chiltern Road, Marlow.
