I HAVE been closely following the news this week regarding the proposals set out by the Government for helping tackle the dangerous dogs problem.
Today (Sunday) I was driving near Hughenden Park in High Wycombe and I witnessed a black German Shepherd dog being kicked and punched by its owner. The dog looked terrified.
I took my life into my hands and as I drove by I asked the owner to stop immediately. I received back a string of verbal abuse.
The owner was probably in his late teens and looked like a thug. So many dogs are owned by people who are not fit to own a dog.
Dogs become aggressive because they are being raised and bred by people who require them for the wrong reasons, a status symbol being the obvious and it is because of this that we have the problems today. I believe the real problem is with the owners, not the dogs and until better controls on who can buy a dog are in place things will only get worse.
I only hope my efforts to stop this cruelty today spared this poor dog a few minutes suffering which it clearly has to endure every day of its life.
