This is unfair on wheelchair users

THE MS Society was disappointed to read about Ms Alison Lewis’ experiences with the poor accessibility at the Marlow Post Office (‘Disabled campaigner lambasts new Marlow Post Office’) and commend her campaign and efforts.

Every day thousands of people living with multiple sclerosis face access inequalities like Ms Lewis, causing them avoidable distress and spoiling their quality of life. It is unacceptable that people using wheelchairs should face restricted access or be subjected to potentially embarrassing experiences through lack of appropriate facilities.

The right to independent life is one of the ten calls for action to the government in the MS Society’s 2010 Manifesto.

Another call demands everyone affected by MS who needs a wheelchair should be provided with one quickly and efficiently. Readers of this newspaper are encouraged to show their support for the manifesto by signing the MS Society’s online petition at http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/MSRights/. People with, and affected by, MS have the right to a full life – and the manifesto will help us to deliver that.
