I HAVE just read the letter in this week’s BFP (‘These absurd plans need to be rethought’, September 3) by my fellow ward councillor, Cllr Bendyshe Brown (Con WDC The Risboroughs) with reference to the county council’s plans to close the Risborough Day Centre.

Whilst I fully agree with the sentiments expressed, I do feel the need to re-balance the argument as written by Cllr Bendyshe Brown.

The recent Conservative In Touch ‘political rag’ circulated within the Princes Risborough ward has caused much controversy locally, including public threats of litigation between local Conservative councillors as a result of its content.

The BFP letter proclaiming Cllr Etholen (Con BCC The Risboroughs) as leading the protest is a little biased and unfair. It seems little more than a 2011 party political promotion on behalf of the Conservatives. Whilst Cllr Etholen can protest all he likes, it is his Conservative administration that is promoting the closure of the Risborough Day Centre – enough said.

The real and genuine heroes are Mr Peter Robinson and the late Mr Tom Kingham. Both local stalwarts fought valiantly and successfully to save the Day Centre in the early 1990s, and have been active in the running of the centre since, never seeking recognition, both utterly selfless individuals, along with many other local people to date.

I have known Mr Robinson since I was a boy, he is a fine upstanding man with the interests of the community at his heart, genuinely. Mr Robinson is also heading the campaign (also against BCC) to save the Princes Risborough Youth Centre of which he has been chairman for many years following in the place of the late Keith Beale, another local stalwart.

Mr Robinson doesn’t write to newspapers with the hope of your support, he isn’t that kind of man. Peter Robinson is one of the most upstanding people I have ever known, even at an age well past retirement he was collecting entrance fees at the recent Help for Heroes day in Princes Risborough in memory of the late Acting Sgt Stuart McGrath, lost in action in Afghanistan.

Politics has its place, but so does rightful recognition.

Please let’s recognise the real people that do the important things in our communities without reward, selflessly every day, above political advantage.
